Bristol City are looking to secure the services of a new goalkeeper in time for tomorrow night’s Sky Bet Championship match against Preston North End (7.45pm).
Frank Fielding was substituted at half-time in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Brom at The Hawthorns after suffering a muscle strain in the rib area.
Academy product Max O’Leary, 19, replaced Fielding for his senior debut, but with City’s number one expected to remain sidelined ahead of a busy fixture list, including three home games in eight days, Cotterill is poised to dip into the transfer market.
“We’re close to one and we hope that will be done in time for tomorrow’s game,” Cotterill revealed to Bristol City Player HD.
City are closing in on securing the necessary paperwork to add Arnold Garita to their squad for tomorrow’s game.
The club are just awaiting clearance from the Football League after all paperwork between City and his French club Châteauroux were tied up.
Meanwhile, following heightened media interest over the weekend, Cotterill confirmed at his pre-match press conference today that City have tabled a £2m bid for Bolton Wanderers striker Zach Clough – and not £3m as has been reported.
“We’re waiting on that one,” added the City manager.
