John Pemberton says this week in La Manga will be used to fine tune City’s tactical approach before the start of the new Sky Bet Championship season.
The team arrived in South East Spain yesterday (Monday) for some warm weather training, but the first team coach believes running the players into the ground is not the purpose of the exercise.
City have already secured the services of five new signings this summer, and Pemberton was keen to talk up the importance of familiarising them with their new team-mates – both on and off the pitch.
“We wanted to get them away because you get their full attention with no distractions,” he told City's official YouTube channel.
“The lads are fit – they came back fit, so their conditioning is not a problem. What we want to do now is fine tune the tactical side and really iron that down.
“Tailored with the games we’ve got, we can have a look at how they’re adapting to what we want in matches.
“They’re in each other’s pockets for seven days and I think that’s important. You get to find out about people and understand people very quickly.
“It’s a good settling in period for the new lads and it’s come at the right time for us. We were right to do a couple of weeks back home first, and now we can get down to fine tuning the team and how we want it to function.
“Once we’re back home we’ll be looking at what the starting team is going to be and trying to get them the minutes that we feel they need.
“We’re looking forward to the start of the Championship campaign, and it’s important we get off to a better start than we did last year.”
