Grace McCatty Extends Vixens Stay

Defender Grace McCatty has signed an extension to her contract at Bristol City Women, keeping her at the club until 2017.

McCatty, a member of the FA Cup final teams of 2011 and 2013, signed for the Vixens in 2006 from Gloucester City and progressed through the Centre of Excellence before making her first team debut.

Last year’s club captain has proved to be an inspiration on and off the field having spent the latter part of last season volunteering at an Orphanage in Zambia.

City manager Willie Kirk commented: “Everyone at the club are thrilled to have re-signed Grace.  She was last year’s captain and she is such a big character in and around the place.

“Without a doubt, we missed her massively in the second half of last season when she went to Zambia to do some fantastic charity work.  She has a real determination to make up for that lost time and can’t wait to help influence and shape the future of Bristol City WFC.

“She is becoming quite unique as a player, in the mould of an ‘old-style’ centre back.  I think it’s a lot harder to find those type of players now, but make no mistake, she can also play football.  As much as I’m going to enjoy seeing her defend wholeheartedly, I can also rely on her to be brave enough to receive the ball and start attacks from the back.

“I only had her for one game last season, so I’m looking forward to working with her for the full season this year."

Grace herself is excited to have extended her stay: “I am really looking forward to what will be a new challenge with Bristol this year. 2016 marks my tenth season at the club and I'm excited by what we can achieve.

"Having taken some time out last season, I once again would like to thank the club, staff and fans for being so supportive in my decision to go to Zambia. As you can imagine I can't wait to get out on the pitch and I look forward to life as Bristol City."
