INTERVIEW: Fergusson Delighted With Opening Spring Series Win

Olivia Fergusson says the squad are delighted to get their first win of the Spring Series.

In a topsy-turvy encounter in Somerset this week, City came out on a top in a five-goal thriller with local rivals Yeovil Town.

It took a last-gasp own goal to secure all three points in a game that saw City lead 1-0, then trail 2-1, before a spirited fightback.

“Coming into the game we wanted a win and nothing less than a win,” said the 22-year-old.

“We made it very tough for ourselves going 2-1 behind, but in the end the character shown to come back was fantastic and we are delighted with the win.”

Coming into the Spring Series, Fergusson says the squad were taking one game at a time, but targeted some games more than others to win.

“We got promoted together, but they finished ahead of us last season,” she added.

“We wanted to make amends for that going into the Spring Series and show we were the better team, we came here and did that and I’m really proud of the team.”

After a positive performance against Reading, followed by the first win, Fergusson says the squad can use the confidence gained to really push on in the Spring Series.

Next up is a long trip to the North East to face Sunderland and she added: “The girls are buzzing going into the weekend.

“No disrespect, but we do take into account the opposition and we know there will be tougher games to come but this is a great foundation to go on and get another win at the weekend.”

The City Women star says the way the team is set up is providing many attacking opportunities.

“I like getting on the ball and play more of a wing back position, today me and Lily and then Ellie when she came on were having great success down the flanks,” added Fergusson.

“This then enables the team to get into attacking positions and create chances for people like Claire (Emslie) to go on and score.”
