Bristol City FC Head Of Communications

Ashton Gate is recruiting for a Head Of Communications for Bristol City FC. Responsible for the promotion of Bristol City’s on-and-off-the-pitch activities to new and existing audiences. Reporting directly to Bristol City FC’s chief executive officer and Ashton Gate’s group head of communications.

The role includes responsibility for all of the football club’s communication channels (external and internal), including digital and social media, and management of two direct reports.

We are looking for an established communications expert with great people management and planning skills, and a desire to be a market leader. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the stories that resonate with media and fans and how to create, pitch and deliver those opportunities to maximise quality coverage and create great content.

Success will be judged on increased share of voice across all channels. Working with the in-house digital, marketing and sales departments to maximise revenue opportunities through a “one-team” approach.

As part of the Ashton Gate communications team you will be required to lead the football club’s communications and work alongside a unique multi-sports communications team.

The 27,000-seater stadium is the beating heart of professional sport in Bristol. Home to Championship side Bristol City FC; Premiership Rugby team the Bristol Bears; Bristol Sport and the HQ for the Bristol Flyers. It is also the largest conference and events centre in the South West hosting many of the biggest and most prestigious business conferences and gala dinners in the region.

What we need from you:

  • Proven experience in a communications role.
  • Experience managing proactive and reactive multi-channel communications programs, with tangible results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience building relationships with players/coaches and the media.
  • Familiarity with social media measurement, delivering to clear KPIs and effective and clearly reporting measurement.
  • Experience in professional sport communications essential, football desirable.
