Progress Update 19-01-15
Welcome to the first in a series of regular progress updates written by Stadium Development Project Manager, Peter Smith, with all the latest news as the Ashton Gate rebuild takes shape.
Monday, January 19th 2015
Work on Phase Two (Dolman Stand) of the stadium rebuild has now started. Last week the Lower Dolman was prepared for demolition which began on Wednesday. Barr Construction have started removing the first section of the lower tier.
Demolition will continue this week with temporary staircases installed prior to Friday 23rd January, allowing supporters to reach the Upper Dolman for the Bristol Rugby B&I Cup game that evening. All catering for supporters will now be inside the Dolman Hall.
Meanwhile, work continues on a new temporary turnstile block just outside the Dolman Stand. In the coming weeks the existing turnstiles will be relocated into this new block and a new exit gate installed. This will allow Barr to demolish the old turnstiles, northern staircase and remaining outbuildings attached to the Dolman. Temporary toilet blocks will be installed to replace some of those lost.
Over the next month a set of new floodlights will be attached to the underside of the Dolman roof on a temporary basis and groundworks for the new lower tier will be carried out ahead of the roof extension, which begins in early spring. This is one of the most complicated parts of the project, as large sections of the roof will be constructed on the ground and lifted into place one by one. The nature of this work and the need to prop the roof for a number of weeks with temporary towers, will result in some restricted views for supporters in the Dolman Stand. We will work closely with supporters on this and ask fans to contact email@example.com if their view is compromised.
We would like to thank all fans for their ongoing support in helping us build for the future.
