Last year’s event raised nearly £40,000 for the sporting charities – Bristol Sport Foundation, Bristol City Community Trust, Bristol Bears Community Foundation and Bristol Flyers Community – with more than 250 cyclists taking part in another glorious event.

Here, we put the spotlight on three key programme across the sporting charities.

Project Inc – Bristol City Community Trust

Project Inc is a Bristol City Community Trust programme, set up to enable children and adults with disabilities to participate in football, offering opportunities that wouldn’t normally be accessible to people with disabilities.

The programme aims to offer football to children and adults with all disabilities, to this point we have always been able to include everyone who has come to us to join in. disabilities have included deaf, blind, amputee, autism, learning disabilities, wheelchair users and many more.

Project Inc works with a range of different organisations to provide the best possible opportunities and to make football as accessible as possible. These include Somerset FA, Gloucestershire FA, South Bristol sports centre, New Fosseway School, Bristol Autistic Project and many others.

Spectrum Project – Bristol Bears Community Foundation

The Bristol Bears Community Foundation’s Spectrum Project continues to go from strength to strength across the city, working with special schools and specialist centres across the Greater Bristol area.

Spectrum works with over 250 young people and adults per week with special educational needs and disabilities.

With a wider inclusive remit encompassing schools, sixth forms, colleges, day care providers and community groups – Spectrum delivers schools PE, outreach and CPD sessions (Spectrum Sports); bespoke curriculum programmes at Ashton Gate Stadium (Disability Journalism Programme); all year round personal development initiatives (Five Star You); and a range of other physical and social engagements activities for all ages and a wide range of additional needs.

Most recently, Spectrum has launched its full-time wheelchair rugby programme at Ashton Park Sports Centre. Weekly sessions for youth of all abilities – the Bristol Cubs – run as a long-term inroad to our adults club for physically disabled adults – the Bristol Bears.

The Spectrum Project is also responsible for the delivery of the Disability element of the national initiative Project Rugby, developed and funded in full partnership by the RFU and Premiership Rugby.

Project Rugby sees over 15 hours per week of inclusive rugby sessions delivered across the city for participants aged 16 and over, leading to the end goal of mixed-ability rugby in the city.

Community Hubs – Bristol Flyers Community

Bristol Flyers development hubs are a great way for youngsters to play more basketball and learn from our team of qualified and experienced basketball coaches.

The coaching sessions from members of the Bristol Flyers team are suitable for a wide range of age groups, with hubs at Wellsway or Knowle.
