The Foundation is the next step towards the fulfilment of Stephen Lansdown’s vision to inspire sport in Bristol and beyond.
Bristol Sport CEO Andrew Billingham said: “In the last year all of Bristol Sport’s major sports including; football; rugby and basketball have come together to operate commercially under one banner from Ashton Gate Stadium. The development of the Bristol Sport Foundation is a key part of our strategic plan of inspiring sport and it will enable us to expand the good work that our existing partner organisations already do.”
On his appointment Ben Breeze said that the job presented a huge challenge but an exciting opportunity to lead a unique charitable foundation that will inspire youngsters to learn through sport.
“I’m really excited by the opportunity that this presents to develop our community offering in the city and beyond. During my last five years as CEO of Bristol Rugby Community Foundation I have witnessed first hand the benefits of linking sport and education.
“The Bristol Sport Foundation will be the perfect vehicle to bring together our family of sports and existing community offerings with Bristol Rugby Community Foundation; Bristol City Community Trust and the Flyers’ community basketball programme. The creation of the new Foundation provides an excellent opportunity to develop and co-ordinate community delivery across the city.”
Andrew Billingham went on to add “Ben’s experience of leading Bristol Rugby Community Foundation to eight parliamentary awards and a successful community sports foundation will be invaluable as we look to develop greater links and partnerships between community sport, youth engagement and corporate social responsibility.
“I look forward to working with Ben and the establishment of the Bristol Sport Foundation as a charitable trust that will harness the power of sport for learning and improvement.”
