Ian, who made his First-Class debut for Gloucestershire in April 2011, signed for the Club having excelled during three seasons training and playing in the MCC Young Cricketers’ programme at Lord’s.

The 29-year-old’s new deal ties him to the Brightside Ground until the end of 2019 and Cockbain says he is delighted to have committed his future to the county.

He said: “I’m very happy to have signed an extension to my current contract. It’s very exciting to be a part of this group of players and I look forward to playing my part in the coming seasons.”

2016 was a successful season for Cockbain – he scored 499 runs in the NatWest T20 Blast placing him third in the highest run scorers in the competition, with an impressive average of 55.44 and a highest score of 73* against Surrey in June.

Gloucestershire Head Coach Richard Dawson said: “It’s great to have Ian committing to the Club. He’s been a massive part of the One-Day and T20 side in recent times and we look forward to him contributing in all formats over the next few seasons.”
