The youngsters will be joined at the game by their parents to celebrate their attendance at a Forever Sport cricket after-school club delivered at their primary school.
Thanks to the partnership between Bristol Sport Foundation and the Gloucestershire Cricket Board, all of the children that showed an interest in cricket, by taking part in the club, were invited to the game with a parent or guardian, free of charge.
Twenty20 cricket is a shortened, fast-paced version of cricket, providing a great introduction for children experiencing live professional cricket for the first time.
Chris Munden, Project and Programmes Manager for the Gloucestershire Cricket Board is excited to see many of the children at the game:
“It’s great that the Bristol Sport Foundation and GCB partnership is going from strength to strength,” he said.
“The schools and children have been wonderful to work with and their enthusiasm to learn new cricket skills has been very encouraging. The take-up for the ticket offer has been really positive and we cannot wait to see them at the Brightside Ground on Wednesday.”
The Forever Sport programme helps children to fall in love with sport and enjoy being active by delivering high quality physical education lessons and sports coaching. The programme advocates children playing a range of different sports to help them find the sport that inspires and engages them the most.
Forever Sport’s Programme Manager, Tom Monks said: “A key aim for Forever Sport is to ensure that children in our primary schools have access to a wide range of sporting opportunities.
“Our relationship with Gloucestershire Cricket Board has enabled us to introduce and deliver cricket to hundreds of children using specialist cricket coaches who have a passion for their sport.
“By inviting the children to watch a live match, we hope that it will inspire and help them to fall in love with sport.
“We are delighted that Gloucestershire Cricket have extended the offer of free tickets to our after-school club attendees and are looking forward to another successful year in 2018/19.
