Soft tennis, dance, table football and basketball all formed part of the sessions, which was open to hospital patients and their siblings.

The session offered children the opportunity of extra activity during their time in hospital, engaging with a range of activities alongside coaches from the Foundation.

Before Christmas, coaches and volunteers from the Foundation were joined by stars from Bristol Bears and Bristol Flyers for some heart-warming days of visits and sporting activity at the hospital.

As part of #Conversations week in the hospital, ran in partnership with Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, Foundation coaches headed to the wards and departments for some soft tennis, boccia, balloon volleyball and gymnastics, as well as a ‘keepy-uppy challenge.’

Caitlin Moss, Deputy Divisional Director for Strategy and Business Planning said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Bristol Sport Foundation to deliver inclusive and fun activities for children in hospital and their siblings.

“The activities bring much joy to those involved and we are lucky to have the lovely BSF coaches visiting the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children to deliver these sessions and support the wellbeing of our patients and their families.”

One parent, Alice, whose son, Aidan took part in the sessions, added: “After a long period of time in hospital, getting out in the fresh air and doing some physical activity really helped Aidan.

“It’s been great for his mental wellbeing too. He was asking me when he could come back again to see the coaches for the afternoon session.”
