Taking place on Sunday, July 16th, Break The Cycle is giving participants and charities the chance to raise money through sponsorship for a cause of their choice this year.

Participants can now cycle on behalf of GWAAC to help raise vital funds for the emergency critical care service after the charity joined forces with the Foundation.

GWAAC saves lives across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire.

Charlie Rowen, GWAAC Events Manager, said:

“Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) is excited to partner with Bristol Sport Foundation for Break the Cycle 2023. This is a fantastic opportunity to join with another great local organisation to get people out cycling and enjoying our beautiful countryside.

“The money raised by people riding for GWAAC will help us continue providing critical care across Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire. Able to get anywhere in our area within 20 minutes we bring the expertise and equipment of an emergency department to people like Adrian.

“We receive no government funding so being able to be part of events like Break The Cycle makes a huge difference to us. On average each mission costs over £2,000 to attend.

“We’d like to encourage anyone who wants to learn more about what we do to visit our website. And we can’t wait to cheer everyone on, on the day!”

GWAAC follows the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and FareShare South West in signing up for this year’s edition of Break The Cycle, which promises to be the biggest and best yet.

Riders can choose to cycle one of three new routes through the Mendips, designed by triple Olympian Oli Beckingsale, with Bronze (42 miles), Silver (66 miles) or Gold (100 mile) cycle loops all starting and finishing at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Ben Breeze, Chief Community Officer at Bristol Sport Foundation, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Great Western Air Ambulance Charity to join the Break The Cycle family and use the event to raise much needed funding to sustain and develop the essential and often life-saving services they provide. I would like to invite all cyclists and fundraisers to get involved, get fit, stay healthy by taking part in Break The Cycle 2023.”
