Aaron Latta from Nailsea in Bristol studied on the BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport course offered by Bristol City Community Trust to students aged 16-18.

Aaron started the course back in 2013 and enjoyed what the course had to offer in terms of the varied modules relating to sport as well as a practical element, Futsal. With training twice per week and matches on a Wednesday, the course provides students with a sense of pride and belonging as they represent the Trust and Bristol City FC is the EFL Trust Futsal League.

“I felt like this course helped me grow up and provided me with a great grounding to progress when I finished the course. I was delighted my efforts rewarded me with the opportunity to study at a top 50 university”

The education aspect of the course is paramount and there are also expectations set of each student to ensure they represent the club in a positive way back in their own communities.

On completion of the BTEC course, Aaron went on to Liverpool john Moore’s University to study Sports Science but decided to pursue a career after the first year.

“After a year of University, I decided it wasn’t for me or to be.  I have since been working in the Recruitment industry for the last 3 years. I have progressed from a trainee consultant into a senior consultant and now looking after my own division.  I recruit within the FMCG space, particularly sales reps, account managers and more.  It is very target focused with monthly revenue targets to hit. Due to the course at BCCT have deadlines and expectations, I believe this has impacted me positively and allowed me to hit my KPI’s”.

For those looking at their options at post 16, whatever course you study, it does not define your path but will support where you may want to go into the future, which is a statement echoed by Aaron himself –

“This course opens doors. Whether that’s university, direct employment through the club, or other avenues, it’s just a really good grounding for anybody who is serious about progressing their career.  It makes a CV look a lot more attractive, especially with the work experience opportunities available. Being someone who looks through 100s of CV’s a day, I can appreciate what a good one looks like”.

“I will always look back on this course with fond memories. It came at an important time in my life, so thank you BCCT”.
