Coincidence or not Ian Gorham, a self-proclaimed badminton fan and chair of Bristol’s first professional badminton franchise, the Bristol Jets, will certainly have a bit more time on his hands to support his team.

After seven years running one of the UK’s leading financial institutions Mr Gorham said: “I’ve been with Hargreaves Lansdown for a long time. It is a great company and I’ve enjoyed it but I can feel my energy waning. I’d rather do it now when people feel it’s a bit of a shame than do it in two or three years.

“It will also give me more time to enjoy the lighter side of life and indulge my love of badminton. I’m really looking forward to Bristol being able to host the country’s top badminton players and compete in the professional National Badminton League.

“The Bristol Jets are an exciting proposition and one that will definitely post a positive return for badminton fans in the city. I’m really looking forward to cheering them on and helping develop the sport here in Bristol.”

The Jets kick off their first season in the top flight on Monday, November 7th against Derby away in the AJ Bell NBL.

Home games will be played at the SGS College Wise Arena in Filton, alongside the professional Bristol Flyers Basketball team.

Bristol Jets first home game will be on Monday, January 9th 2017, against the Birmingham Lions at the SGS Wise Arena at 6.45pm.
