Ashton Gate Named As National League Promotion Final Venue

Ashton Gate Stadium has been named as the venue for the National League’s Vanarama Promotion Final on Sunday, June 20th.

With Wembley Stadium unavailable due to the hosting of Euro 2020 fixtures, the National League today confirmed that the home of Bristol City and Bristol Bears will host the season finale.

The 27,000-capacity stadium, which underwent a major rebuild in 2016, has been transformed into one of the UK’s leading sporting venues. Last year Ashton Gate played host to the Heineken Champions Cup Final between Exeter Chiefs and Racing 92 - the first major final since the redevelopment.

Ross Wormald, Ashton Gate’s Stadium General Manager said: “We are delighted to be able to host the National League Promotion Final here.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring a high-profile event to the city and further demonstrate the return to crowds and large-scale events here at the stadium.

“We look forward to being able to welcome both teams and their supporters next month.”

Since 2018, the National League play-off positions have been increased to six - with the champions being promoted automatically.

The remaining six sides fight it out for one final slot with two eliminator matches taking place before the semi-finals.

The one-off match format has added even more excitement and kept more clubs involved in the shake-up for longer.

Due to the current Government sporting guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic, all play-off eliminator and semi-final matches will be played at reduced stadium capacity with only home fans permitted.

Supporters of both participating clubs in the Vanarama National League Promotion Final at Ashton Gate will be able to attend in limited numbers.

Further information will be confirmed closer to the time of the event.
