Ashton Gate Wins Third Award

Ashton Gate Stadium is now the proud winner of three regional awards, including Best Public Service Building in the West of England.

The stadium has scooped ‘Best Public Service Building’ at the recent LABC West of England award ceremony in front of more than 400 construction industry professionals. The success follows on from a double-win at the Bristol Building Excellence Awards earlier in the summer.

Organised by Local Authority Building Control (LABC), the honours celebrate technical building excellence and raise thousands of pounds for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Ashton Gate will be entered for the national finals in the autumn.

Ashton Gate Chairman Martin Griffiths said “These three awards reflect years of hard work by our architects and design team. Many people have rightly praised the commercial design of the stadium and we’ve enjoyed a year operating with vastly improved facilities. It’s critical that the stadium performs for years to come in terms of safety, systems, sustainability and cost. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure this would be the case and we’re delighted that too has been recognised”

More than £2,000 was raised for LABC President, Richard Scott’s chosen charity was Pancreatic Cancer UK, which is close to this year’s president Richard Scott who has seen first-hand what the devastating effects are”

The awards were not about architectural beauty, but on the ‘excellence’ shown from a construction and technical building control point of view.

Ashton Gate Stadium received the following awards:

  • ’Best Commercial Building’ at the Bristol Building Excellence Awards run by Bristol Building Control
  • ‘Best Public Service Building’ at the Bristol Building Excellence Awards run by Bristol Building Control
  • ‘Best Public Service Building’ at the West of England LABC Building Excellence Awards run by LABC.

John Vivis, Associate Director and Jonathon Kinnear, Architect, KKA Architecture receive the award.
