An inspiring quartet who are preparing to row the Atlantic in aid of The Movember Foundation, will host an exciting launch party at Ashton Gate Stadium on Thursday, 14th September (6pm).
The ‘Nuts Over the Atlantic’ team, made up of Dan Baker, Steve Baker, Mark Gibson and Jon Lakin, will take on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge - one of the toughest races on Earth – in December 2017, rowing more than 3,000 nautical miles across the world's second largest ocean, the Atlantic.
Bristol Sport Foundation has donated £5,000 to the team’s cause, as they head west from San Sebastian in La Gomera before finishing in Nelson's Dockyard English Harbour in Antigua.
Lansdown Club members can support this inspiring team - as they aim to raise more than £100,000 for Movember Foundation - at this inspiring event.
The event will feature:
“The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is an epic challenge that we are proudly undertaking in partnership with Bristol Sport,” said group member Jon Lakin.
“We will be battling 3,000 miles of open water, 40 foot waves as well as a brutal two hour on, two hour off regime 24 hours a day for six weeks.
“As a team we are passionate about our reasons for undertaking this challenge. We have been affected by mental health issues first hand as well as having relatives with prostate and testicular cancer.
“This challenge has a key message at the heart of it and encouraging men to talk about their health is at the core of these issues and if we can set an example, what better platform to spread the message.”
