The Prime Minister met with staff and volunteers at Ashton Gate Stadium, which opened as a “Super Vaccination Hub” on Monday, January 11th.
Mr Johnson was shown around the South Stand concourse which has been transformed into an NHS vaccination centre.
"What we’re doing here in Bristol today is launching the first of the mass vaccination centres here. We will have 50 of these by the end of the month, that’s in addition to the 233 hospital sites and the thousand-plus GP sites and the first go of about 200 community pharmacies and we will be ramping them all up."
He went on to add: “It’s a huge ask of the NHS, of the army, of the St John’s Ambulance all the other volunteers that you are seeing here today. Loads and loads of people are coming together to deliver this and there’s no doubt that it is a massively stretching target. We believe it is achievable and we are going to put everything into it.”
Chief Nurse, Anne Morris accompanied the PM, explaining how the centre will work, and introduced him to NHS staff, volunteers and those being vaccinated.
The PM chatted with the public who were receiving their first jabs including Hazel and John Watson who are both in their 80s and relieved to be amongst the first to receive vaccines.
He also saw Royal Navy personal from the South West who were training on how to give the vaccine.
