Break the Cycle 2019: the routes

Break the Cycle 2019 sees the development of our 2018 routes across the old Severn Crossing.

Cyclists can choose between the Bronze Route (40 miles), Silver Route (60 miles) or Gold Route (100 miles), taking in breathtaking countryside along the way.

Here's a breakdown of the routes:

Bronze Route (40 miles)

Leaving from Ashton Gate Stadium, ride across the new Swing Bridge, up the Portway, past Blaise Castle, through Hallen, Easter Compton and Pilning and head for the Old Severn Crossing.

Enjoy the stunning views whilst riding across the bridge, refill your bottles on the far side and start the return leg back through the tried and tested Spanorium route, back down the Avon Gorge and you're bronze.

Silver Route (60 miles)

Leaving from Ashton Gate Stadium, ride across the new Swing Bridge, up the Portway, past Blaise Castle and head for the Old Severn Crossing.

Through Chepstow, up the beautiful St Briavel's climb, drop down into Brockweir through the Wye Valley and into Tintern. Climb past the Fisheries, through Fedw Wood and up to Devauden Village, enjoy the well-earned and long descent back to Chepstow Racecourse, back over the Old Bridge, through the tried and tested Spanorium route, back down the Gorge and you’re silver. This is a beautiful ride and plenty of miles for a keen cyclist looking for a great day in the saddle.

Gold Route (100 miles)

Leaving from Ashton Gate Stadium, ride across the new Swing Bridge, up the Portway, through Blaise and head for the Old Severn Crossing. Ride through Chepstow, up the beautiful St Briavels Climb, roll past Coleford and Staunton before a cracking descent into Monmouth to refuel.

Out past Rockwell, and head West through Tal-y-coed, Llantilio Crossenny, down to Llanarth, Bryngwyn, Raglan, Llansoy and climb up to Devauden Village, enjoy the well-earned descent back to Chepstow Racecourse, back over the Old Bridge, through the tried and tested Spanorium route, down the Gorge and you’re gold.
