Bristol Sport Foundation honoured at national award ceremony

The Bristol Sport Foundation has received national recognition for its work in the community after being honoured at the annual Sport and Recreation Alliance’s 2019 Community Sport and Recreation Awards.

The charity scooped the Creative Partnerships Award at Edgbaston on Friday afternoon, for identifying people in Greater Bristol and the West of England in need of support and offering a range of 18 different sports to connect with hard to reach communities.

The ceremony, hosted by the Alliance’s president His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, recognised 15 sport and recreation clubs and organisations across five categories for their excellent and inspiring community projects. Each category winner received their award and a prize of £1,000.

Chief community officer, Ben Breeze, said: “Winning the Sport & Recreation Alliance’s Creative Partnership Award is a tremendous endorsement of the partnership approach we are developing at Bristol Sport Foundation.

“We hope this endorsement will help us build new partnerships and raise the local and national profile of sport development in Bristol with a view to new and increased funding.”

James Allen, Director of Policy, Governance and External Affairs at Sport and Recreation Alliance, said: “We are delighted with the success of the Bristol Sport Foundation in winning the Creative Partnerships Award at the 2019 Community Sport and Recreation Awards.

“We've been incredibly impressed by the work to change lives in and around Bristol since the Foundation joined us as members. This is a richly deserved award, having beaten off very strong competition from a huge number of entries and is testament to the quality, creativity and dedication of the Foundation's team.

“We're looking forward to continuing to work with our colleagues in Bristol to share their successes and, crucially, to share the best practice that is such strong evidence there with our members across the country.”
