Bristol Sport Gets Behind Charity Walk In The City

Bristol Sport supports Harbourside Walk to raised money for Meningitis charity.

BMI Regional has teamed up with leading UK meningitis charity Meningitis Now to put on a scenic five mile walk which launched today.

Event organiser, Paul Hobbs has already raised more than £100,000 for meningitis charities and said: “I have wanted to arrange something on the Harbourside for a while now but it had to be the right charity.

Meningitis Now is a magnificent charity which I know very well. I contacted them about doing a walk in Bristol and its turned into a really excited project".

Founder of Meningitis Now, Steve Dayman lost his son, Spencer, after he contracted meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia in 1982. Since then, he has dedicated much of his life to the meningitis cause in Spencer’s memory. He said: "Bristol is a fantastic city and people here do rally together".

Steve added: "I am sure the Habourisde Walk will be a great success and help us to continue vital research."

Bristol Mayor, George Ferguson attended the launch event today and is looking forward to the event: "Meningitis Now is a fantastic charity that saves childrens lives. This walk will be a great event and I want to encourage families, sports clubs and anyone who is active enough to walk 5 miles to come along and walk the beautiful route."

The walk on Sunday, April 10th 2016 will start at @Bristol and finish up in Millennium Square.
