Members of the public received their first Covid-19 vaccines today at the NHS-run Vaccination Centre in Ashton Gate’s South Stand concourse.
Ashton Gate Stadium Managing Director Mark Kelly said: “It’s a fantastic day for the stadium. In such a worrying time for the community in South Bristol, numbers have increased of Covid in the last few weeks in South Bristol and nationally. And for us to be able to finally open the super vaccination hub and to get people through the doors from first thing this morning. Incredibly proud, I keep saying it but very humbling.
Boris Johnson visited Ashton Gate to officially launch the “Super Vaccination” hub. The stadium is one of the first mass vaccination centres to open, with seven centres opening across the country this week.
Speaking to media at the stadium, the Prime Minister said “the government hopes to have 50 of these by the end of the month. That’s in addition to the 233 hospital sites and the thousand-plus GP sites and the first go of about 200 community pharmacies. We will be ramping them all up.”
