Flyers To Get Sugar Smart At Cheshire BBL Clash

Bristol Flyers’ BBL clash with Cheshire Phoenix next Friday (April 7) will see players and supporters showing their support for the Sugar Smart campaign.

Flyers have teamed up with the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation, Bristol City Council and the Bristol Sport Foundation to become sugar smart.

The campaign was launched at Ashton Gate in January at Bristol Rugby and Bristol City fixtures and is led by the council’s public health team. It helps people to recognise how much sugar is in the food they eat, with local organisations leading by example and playing their part.

Sally Hogg, Public Health consultant at Bristol City Council, said: “We have had a fantastic response since we launched our Sugar Smart programme at the start of the year and it’s great to have the Bristol Flyers on board.

“Working with the city’s sports stars is helping us to reach a wide range of people with our message and the players are really leading by example.

“It is essential that the whole of Bristol benefits from the Sugar Smart work as we know that obesity levels and dental problems contribute to health inequalities.”

Jenny Lewis, Bristol Flyers community development officer, said: “Bristol Flyers is proud to support the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and Bristol City Council with the Sugar Smart programme.

“We currently deliver our Health Squad programme in schools throughout Bristol and help to promote and champion healthy lifestyle choices.”

The Bristol Sport Foundation is helping raise awareness of sugar content at Ashton Gate Stadium’s concessions alongside its community school programmes.
