GALLERY: Athlete Roger Black Sets The Pace At Ashton Gate

Roger Black MBE inspired the Big Sports Speaker audience with tales from his successful career as an Olympic sprinter.

One of the country’s most successful sportsmen, Black represented Great Britain for fourteen years at the highest level in the world of athletics.

Born in Portsmouth, Roger was educated at Portsmouth Grammar School and subsequently went on to read medicine at Southampton University.

He is particularly admired for his triumphs over adversity, overcoming serious injuries and a rare heart valve condition to go on to become a world champion.

Roger Black won fifteen major championship medals including European, Commonwealth and World Championship gold medals.

His greatest achievements included:

  • Winning the Olympic 400 metres silver medal in 1996
  • Being part of the gold medal winning 4 x 400 metres relay team at the 1991 World Championships
  • British Men’s Team Captain and was awarded the MBE in 1992

Black is now recognised as one of the leading motivational speakers in the UK.  He understands the dynamics of becoming a champion, how to live a dream, set goals and take the necessary steps to fulfilling ones potential.

The next Big Sports Speaker event features Alan Chambers MBE on Friday, March 26th from 8am-10am at Ashton Gate.
