Henleaze School Triumph In EFL Kids Cup

Bristol City Community Trust hosted its annual Sport + Kinder EFL Kids Cup at South Bristol Sports Centre on Wednesday.

With over 140 youngsters in attendance from 16 Bristol-based primary schools, each team battled it out in the six-a-side group knockout tournament, with the overall winning team advancing through to the regional finals in Brentford.

After a thoroughly enjoyable day, with an array of talent on display, it was Sea Mills and Henleaze who met in the final, with the latter running out eventual winners in a tightly contested encounter.

Henleaze will now represent Bristol City in the upcoming regional finals, and should they advance to the national finals, they will face their northern counterparts at Wembley ahead of the Sky Bet Championship play-off final.

To make the event more memorable, City duo Luke Freeman and Mark Little were in attendance at FIVES Soccer Centre, posing for photos, signing autographs, and distributing participants’ certificates and medals.

Commenting on the tournament, event organiser Tom Werrett said: “It was great to see so many young children battle it out for the chance to represent Bristol City.

“The feedback we received from participants and teachers alike was fantastic, and it would be brilliant if we could expand on the 16 teams we had competing this year.”

Community Trust head of operations Dan White added: “The EFL Kids Cup was a huge success and I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed.

“To see so many pupils enjoying themselves whilst keeping physically active is fantastic, and it underlines the work we conduct within the Trust on a daily basis.

“We hope all the schools involved had a positive experience and hopefully we will attract even greater interest next year.”
