INTERVIEW: Alexander Looking To Make Amends Against Manchester City Women

Megan Alexander says the squad are using the disappointment of defeat in the North-East as motivation for tomorrow’s crunch clash against Manchester City Women.

In a tough match at the Hetton Centre, a penalty was enough to separate the two sides in an open, expansive encounter.

“The game could have gone either way on Saturday, we were desperately disappointed not to leave with anything,” said the 23 year old.

“To lose to a penalty is gutting, but we are creating the chances in front of goal, it’s just a case of being more clinical and converting them. We are eager to right the wrongs of the defeat tomorrow and we can’t wait to get back out there.”

The Vixens left back insists the squad are still taking it one game at a time in the Spring Series.

“Of course we are always looking to win, that’s natural,” she added.

“As is the case with any league, we look at certain games that we are more likely to win, but anything can happen and that is the great thing about WSL 1 and the Spring Series.”

With City Women sitting sixth in the table, Alexander says the squad are looking forward to being back in familiar territory at the Stoke Gifford Stadium tomorrow night.

“Definitely, the support we get from our fans, especially at home is always fantastic.

“This gives us a slight advantage on the day and we can use the support we get to spur us on. The support was fantastic all of last year and it hasn’t been any different so far this year, so I’m hoping for a big crowd again tomorrow night.”

The City Women star says she is enjoying her WSL 1 experience so far.

“It’s nice to get going and be back out on the pitch, this tournament is fantastic preparation in time for pre-season,” added Alexander.

“This team belongs in WSL 1, we proved that last year and we have shown so far in the Spring Series that we belong in this league. We are back where we belong and we are definitely here to stay.”
