Each month we’ll be profiling different members of the Lansdown Club, one of the fastest growing business memberships in the South West. This month we profile from Hudson Business Accountants.
Hudson Business Accountants and Advisers are a modern firm of chartered accountants who joined the Lansdown Club in 2015 so they are now in their third year of membership.
The company was set up by Della Hudson in 2009 in response to the lack of flexibility offered by existing employers. With her experience in running large and small businesses at board level the company soon grew and now employs 7 staff, all with flexible working contracts. This is possible due to the firm’s investment in (and passion for) technology and a belief in work/life balance.
As a Bristol City FC and WFC supporter Della says, “I enjoy mixing with likeminded business people and the Lansdown Club provides a good opportunity to discuss the various Bristol Sport achievements and fascinating guest speakers as well as giving an introduction to new clients and contacts. There aren’t many female members at the moment so it would be good to see more come along.”
Hudson’s is very much about growing and improving clients’ businesses so, as a busman’s holiday, Della and her children make mystery fan visits to football clubs for family excellence awards and fan experience programmes. Della herself coaches endurance and conditioning at North Somerset Athletics Club. For relaxation she watches the local football and rugby clubs that the company sponsor in Nailsea and the occasional charity football match they are involved with. The company have also sponsored individual players at Bristol City FC and WFC which gives an added excitement to watching the games. As well as the pleasure that it gives sport is an important way for the business to contribute to the local community.
Whilst 2016/17 saw the new, larger Ashton Gate Stadium, it was also a busy year for Hudson’s as they outgrew their offices in Backwell and moved to larger premises in Nailsea. They host quarterly Money Matters seminars which provide free business growth advice to local companies and a taster of their part time Finance Director services, workshops and webinars. At the same time the firm also became Registered Auditors which has allowed them to take on work previously carried out by big 4 firms in much the same way that Bristol City are laying their foundations for the Premier League.
In amongst all the business growth Della’s mother, and inspiration, was diagnosed with breast cancer so, on 25 June 2017, Della completed an iron distance triathlon in aid of the Breastcare Unit at Southmead Hospital (BUST). This consisted of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride (the first time she cycled this far was the Bristol Rugby Foundation’s Break the Cycle ride in 2016) and a marathon run.
All this training leads Della to point out another benefit of the Lansdown Club is the excellent catering available in the Coffee Shop, Sports Bar and at business events. With a near paperless office the Lansdown Business Club provides a great place to stop and catch up on emails between meetings.
Being a member of the Lansdown Club allows Hudson’s to combine business with pleasure so that growing their own business is always enjoyable.
