Norris Takes Positives From Frustrating Weekend

Bristol Sport Racing's Lando Norris took the positives away from a podium-free weekend on his return to the Italian F4 Championship.

The 15-year-old, driving for Mücke Motorsport, found the going tough at Mugello – a track he was racing at for the first time.

But after a slow start, he improved as the weekend progressed and was unlucky not to get on the podium in the final race.

The ADD Motorsports-supported Somerset racer said: “It was a frustrating weekend, we started off really slowly and it was made even harder that we hadn’t tested at the track before.

“Things got a lot better in the last two races and I set the fastest lap time at the end.

“I got to third in the last race and was closing in on the leader but was one of around eight drivers to get a drive-through penalty for improving our sector times under a yellow flag.

“I go into all weekends wanting to win, but these championships are a learning curve for me as well.

“It just didn’t go my way this time round.”

Lando, racing in the competition between his MSA Formula commitments, found the car slow in practice and in qualifying could only finish 16th and 12th.

The team made some improvements to the car which helped Lando move up from his starting position of 16th to 12th by the end of the first race.

Things continued on an upward trajectory for the second race, when he placed seventh – and he would have finished higher if the race had been longer.

He began 12th in the final race of the weekend and found his best form.

He was up to third and closing in on the leader when he was penalised – and the drive through penalty saw him finish the race in eighth.

He added: “I was a bit unlucky with the penalty and unlucky in both the final races where I could have finished in a better position.

“We were happy to end the weekend with some fast times, it was just disappointing we didn’t start the weekend on the right foot.

“So there were positives to take away from the weekend. We improved as the weekend went on and have now got another track under our belts.”
