PREVIEW: Yeovil Town Ladies FC V Bristol City Women

Yeovil Town and Bristol City arrived in FA Women's Super League 1 together, and they will meet for the first time this season in the Spring Series.

It has been a tough start for Yeovil, the FA WSL 2 champions, with daunting games against Liverpool and Chelsea kicking off the Spring Series – so they will want to prove a point against City Women.

The Vixens are also looking to lay down a marker in their second Spring Series game, making this a thrilling contest.

FORM GUIDE

It has certainly been a tough baptism of fire for Yeovil, who enter this contest off the back of a heavy 6-0 loss at Super League heavyweights Chelsea.

Yeovil had hung on impressively in the first half, but they say that goals change games – and Ji So-Yun’s free-kick just before the break took the wind out of their sails.

The 2014 Player of the Year doubled their lead a minute later and from there they were rampant, Drew Spence, Erin Cuthbert, Crystal Dunn and Ramona Bachmann all added a strike each to secure victory.

That followed a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, so Yeovil will be desperate to show they can mix it at this level after successive losses.

Bristol City Women also enter this match without a point, but they have only played one Spring Series contest – going down 3-1 to Reading.

City Women have shown good form already this season though, knocking Millwall out of the SSE Women’s FA Cup fifth round 5-0 before succumbing 2-1 to the all-conquering Manchester City in the last eight.

PREVIOUS MEETING

The FA WSL 2 promotion race was gripping throughout, with Everton also in the hunt for much of the campaign.

Yeovil and City Women met early in the season, and it was the Lady Glovers who prevailed last May – winning 2-0, in a result which would ultimately prove crucial.

Sarah Wiltshire scored her fifth goal of the season, popping up at the back post to slam home Helen Bleazard’s cross before Ellie Curson’s lofted finish gave Yeovil the points.

In the other contest that season, The Vixens claimed a 3-2 win – hinting at how closely-matched they are.

Lauren Hemp, Bristol City – Post Reading

“We will go into it with the same mindset we have before every game and going out there to try and get three points.

"We have been working hard in training and I'm sure we will show that we can compete at this level over the weeks ahead."

"We did well in the last game but a spell of about 20 minutes cost us. But we gave it 100 per cent in every challenge and I think we showed we deserve to play at this level.

"Obviously I was pleased to score but a bit disappointed with the result.

"But if we keep playing like we did and cut out the mistakes, I'm sure we can get some good results."
