Willie Kirk says the squad won’t be too despondent about defeat to the Champions of England.
“I told the team not to get too excited about the win at Yeovil and on the flip side I don’t want them getting too despondent about the result tonight,” said the Vixens Manager.
“There are certainly elements of the game which we could have done better, especially with the ball. We defended excellently, but we were defending too much.”
The Bristol City Women Manager says his side are where he expected them to be so far in the Spring Series.
“I think we are where I expected us to be at this point,” he added.
“We have learnt a lot already. You can see individuals who have performed well and others that need to step back and see where they can improve moving forward, myself and all of the players and staff need to decide how we want to improve to compete against the best sides in the league.”
Kirk says fatigue wasn’t an issue going into the game after three games in seven days.
“The players are more than capable of playing three games in seven days, it’s the level that we are playing at that has shocked us.
“Injuries haven’t helped and this block of games has come at a time when three of our players were on U-17 duty in the Czech Republic so that has depleted the squad further. I’ve only had the chance to rotate two or three players at a time which isn’t ideal.”
Birmingham are up next for the Vixens and Kirk says he has given the squad an extended rest ahead of the fixture in The Midlands.
“We’ve extended the time off from two to four days, the team need a rest after an intense period” added Kirk.
“They will come in on Sunday and prepare all week, we will be ready for the Birmingham game.”
