Polar explorer Alan Chambers MBE will deliver inspirational speech at Ashton Gate on Friday, May 26th.
Born in North Lincolnshire, he joined the Royal Marines in 1985 and spent the next 16 years as a Commando.
Alan spent the winters between 1990 and 1994 in the mountains of North Norway teaching arctic survival. He has also spent time instructing in humanitarian conditions in Middle Eastern countries.
Alan Chambers planned and led the first British unsupported team walk from Canada to the Geographical North Pole.
Following major challenges, including the evacuation of two team members, extreme frostbite and hunger. They managed to raise their flag on top of the world just before midnight on the May, 16th 2000.
The walk on the ice lasted a gruelling 70 days. The team suffered near starvation and a dwindling fuel supply whilst trekking 500 miles against the worst polar weather in over a century. They had completed what some said was impossible.
Alan Chambers was awarded the MBE in the Queens 2000 New Years Honours list for determination and strong leadership in such adverse conditions. He also became a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
It has become clear that the values which brought success to the North Pole journey are directly applicable to the business world. Alan’s speeches and workshops can be adapted to suit a company or organisation’s specific themes.
The Big Sports Speaker event featuring Alan Chambers MBE will be on Friday, March 26th from 8am-10am at Ashton Gate.
