Report: Bristol Central Water Polo 10-7 GB Juniors

Bristol Central water polo team got their British Championships campaign off to a winning start on Saturday with a hard fought 10-7 win against the GB Juniors.

Bristol were cheered on to their first home win of the tournament in front of a 200 strong crowd at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre. Taylor scored 3 and Castle 2 as Central came from behind against a fit and physical GB side.

Central captain Andy Crawford said “It was great to get off to a strong start. We have a really mixed team this year in terms of age and experience so it was nice to build confidence early on. The strong performance in the 2nd half of the game is testament to the hard work that the players have put in over the previous weeks.

“We’ve won the British Champs six times previously so we have a good history in the competition. This is a transition year with many of our younger players coming through, so fingers crossed, we go well against Invicta at the end of the month and make it through to the next round!”

Next up Bristol face London-based team Invicta in a must-win game to qualify for the semi-finals in April.

The game is on Saturday, March 19th at 20:00 at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre.
