Report: Haskins Retains Title With Unanimous Decision

Bristol's Lee Haskins put on a boxing masterclass to retain his IBF Bantamweight World Title with a unanimous points decision over Mexico's Ivan Morales.

Haskins out-boxed his opponent from the first bell to finish ahead on all three judges' scorecards, 118-110 on two cards and 119-108 on the other.

Morales, younger brother of Mexican legend Erik, came into the fight boasting a strong record of 29 wins and just one loss in his professional career to date.

The 24-year-old appeared overawed by the occasion in what was his first world title fight, and the first fight of his career in Europe, letting his more experienced opponent control the fight throughout.

Southpaw Morales wasn't shy in getting forward but struggled to land any effective shots on his 32-year-old opponent, Haskins showing some good power in his gloves to rock the Mexican several times during the fight without doing enough to land a knock-down.

It's a good end to a frustrating twelve months for Haskins, with this his first fight since he defeated Japan's Ryosuke Iwasa last June for the interim title, before he was handed the full title in November following Randy Caballero's failure to make the weight for their fight in Las Vegas.

Haskins and his team will now look to arrange an all-British world title fight with Stuart Hall, an opponent the Bristolian has already defeated once in his career, via unanimous decision back in 2012.
