Swan Wins Aegon Young Player Of The Year

Katie Swan was named as Aegon Young Player of the Year at British Tennis Awards last night. 

Swan was one of six players to receive a wildcard for this year’s Wimbledon Championships, which got under way on Monday, 27th June.

The 17-year-old suffered defeat on her debut against world number 44 Timea Babos on Tuesday. 

However the Bristol-born star, who was the youngest player to compete on the senior stage in 2016, began to showcase why she is highly-regarded as one of the next top tennis stars and scooped the accolade at the British Tennis Awards. 

She tweeted: "Thanks to British Tennis for the award, grateful for all the support."

Swan was praised for her successful career so far including being a finalist at the Australian Open Juniors, quarter-finalist at Junior Wimbledon and also winning a qualifying round at Wimbledon beating world No.118.

Former Bristol Grammar pupil was also shortlisted to the final three for the Pride of Sport Awards, Young Sports Personality of the Year 2015.
