Video: Klinger Expects To Win

Michael Klinger expects to pick up his first trophy as Gloucestershire captain after leading the club to their first Lords final in 11 years.

Gloucestershire beat Yorkshire by eight wickets to make the final of the Royal London One-Day Cup. Improving on last year’s defeat at the quarter-final stage, Klinger was full of praise for the progress his side and coaching staff have made this year.

“It’s a credit to all the boys and coaches for the work they’ve done to improve this team. To cap it off with a Lords final is fantastic.

“I thought the bowlers won us that semi-final because if you’re chasing 320-plus which it looked like at one stage, it means the batters have to take more risks and then it can get a little bit difficult. It put us in a great position and made the chase a lot easier.

“Personally I’m happy with my form and the way the season’s gone, but more so to be part of a winning team is the main thing, and to lead such a great group of guys and improving cricketers to Lords is something I’m very proud of.”

Australian Klinger, who has been with Gloucestershire since 2013, is expecting nothing less than a win in his first final for the Bristol-based club.

“Anytime you can expose players to pressure situations and pressure games is only going to make them better down the track and in saying that, we’re going there expecting to win and we believe we can do that.”
