Wood Prepared For The Masters

Bristol golfer Chris Wood will play in the second Masters of his career when he tees off this afternoon.

The 28-year-old appeared in the first major of the calendar for the first time in 2010 and has been parked with America’s Webb Simpson and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.

Wood, who won his second career European Tour event in 2015, tees off at 2.04pm and anticipates a different display from his performance six years ago.

“I’m six years more established as a pro,” he said.

“I feel I’m a different player. Mentally going there last time was like ‘blimey, I’m playing in a Masters!’ and I had to take it all in.

“I probably went there as a golf gan and not as someone fully competing in the competition but I’m over that now.”

Last time, as a wet-behind-the-ears 22-year-old, Wood shot 78 and 76 and the Bristolian feels he needed more practice at the Augusta National Golf Club.

"Augusta is not just another American resort course,” Wood said.

"There are spots where you don't want to go and you need to learn where to miss. How I do this time will be all about whether I feel I have prepared well enough.

"I had 18 holes with Henrik Stenson who has obviously been there a lot and we spent a lot of time on the greens.

"I can really see a score round there now. Four rounds under par is completely in my capability."
