Youngsters shine at Celebration of Sport Week 2019

Youngsters from across Greater Bristol graced the hallowed turf during a three-day festival of community sport at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Bristol Sport Foundation kicked off the week with a celebration of their work on the pitch and throughout the concourses at Ashton Gate, with more than 800 youngsters taking part in 11 different sports throughout the day.

Tuesday saw Bristol Bears Community Foundation take centre stage with a combination of national and local programmes, including Premiership Rugby's award-winning Project Rugby. Added to this was the Foundation's Bright Sparks programme, Eagle Project and Spectrum Project, to complete a glorious day of rugby in BS3.

The week was signed off by Bristol City Community Trust, who welcomed participants from a range of their programmes to take part in a day of footballing fun.

The day saw a range of different footballing activities take place on the pitch including: the regional finals of multiple different primary school and girls football tournaments, walking football fixtures, disability and Key Stage One fun football sessions, as well as the final of the prestigious Woodcock Shield.

Overall the day saw in excess of 650 Trust participants taking to the pitch at Ashton Gate and getting involved in the action.

Primary Stars Lead coach at the Community Trust and coordinator of the day, James Howiantz, said, “It is brilliant to be able to offer so many young people the opportunity to play football in this fabulous stadium.”

“The day is a great chance for us to bring together, and showcase the work that we do within the community.”
