Richard Dawson’s men defied the odds to overcome Yorkshire at Headingley in the semi-finals, as skipper Michael Klinger and long-serving Hamish Marshall shared an unbroken record third wicket stand of 170.

But Gloucestershire will be wary of a much-fancied Surrey side that include former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara and England trio Jade Dernbach, Steven Davies and Jason Roy among their ranks.

Surrey booked their spot in the final with a pulsating four-run defeat of Nottinghamshire Outlaws, as Sangakkara struck an impressive 166 at the Kia Oval.

Batsman Ian Cockbain could be in line for his first one-day appearance since mid-July after returning from a fractured wrist, but Craig Miles is almost certain to miss the showpiece final with a back problem.

Head Coach Dawson will be buoyed by Klinger’s inclusion, whose exploits with the bat saw the 36 year-old named as the Most Valuable Player in both the Royal London One-Day Cup and the NatWest T20 Blast.

Klinger has scored 531 runs at a strike rate of 93 and an average of 132.75 in this year’s One Day Cup campaign, contributing over a third of his team’s runs (34.35%) in the seven games he has played.

Meanwhile, Benny Howell is second in the MVP Rankings with 291 runs and 15 wickets – including an impressive 3-37 against Yorkshire in the semi-finals.

James Fuller (20th), David Payne (37th) and Gareth Roderick (38th) also feature in the top 50.

Gloucestershire’s opponents, Surrey, have eight players in the top 50, with four players in the top 15. Steven Davies is their highest ranked player in 7th with 496 runs while England’s Jason Roy (13th) and Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakarra (14th) also feature.

The last time Gloucestershire competed in a Lords final, in 2004, Phil Weston’s unbeaten 110 against Worcestershire ensured a sixth final victory in as many years for the West Country outfit.

The class of 2015 will be hoping to emulate those achievements at the home of cricket on Saturday.
