Following their 2-2 meeting earlier in the season, both teams were expecting a tight game. An impressive performance however saw Clifton ease into the Investec Cup Final, in front of some great support at Coombe Dingle.

Clifton started the game well, Els Mansell getting the home side on the scoreboard in the opening minutes. Clifton’s England and GB superstar Joie Leigh, attacked the baseline and then tucked it under her arm for Mansell to sweep into the goal.

Holcombe came back shortly after with a goal of their own to level it at 1-1.

Clifton responded before half-time with a well-worked corner deflection by Claire Thomas.

Another exceptional corner routine in the second half deflected up off the Holcombe goalkeeper and was smashed home on the reverse by Jess Bloom.

Final score Clifton 3 – Holcombe 1.

Clifton will face Buckingham in the Final at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis centre on Saturday, April 30th (5pm). It promises to be a big weekend for Clifton with the men’s and women’s second sides also in action in their respective cup finals.

Clifton face Holcombe again this weekend in their final Premiership league match of the season this Saturday, March 19th (2pm) at Coombe Dingle.
