Run by North Bristol NHS Trust, the hospital sits across 4,000 square metres at the university’s campus in North Bristol, operating a number of beds for critically ill coronavirus patients, as well as providing the region with additional dedicated ventilator facilities.
The hospital can house up to 300 beds if required, that’s six times the intensive care capacity of a large hospital in the south west.
It is part of a network approach to the management of critical care services across Gloucestershire, Bristol, North Somerset, Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire, Somerset and South Gloucester, with staff at NHS Nightingale Hospital being drawn from within the NHS and across a range of organisations.
The NHS Nightingale Hospital Bristol officially opened on Monday, April 27th.
