Thousands of spectators lined the streets for the first event of its kind in Bristol, taking place over a challenging 1.3km figure-of-eight course.
Races lasted up to 45 mins each and featured a wide spectrum of ability, ages and gender.
The event has been driven by Nicola Waterworth, a Bristol-based cyclist with a passion for making cycling accessible to all.
Nicola was thrilled with the response from the Bristol public, and is already looking ahead to growing the event next year:
“We’ve had a great turnout today and the event has gone really, really well with some great races.
“We want to go bigger and better and attract a higher calibre of competitor, eventually making this a national championships event.
“We are also looking at plans to make the event broader, with more youth development, more female riders and to include paracycling.”
Bristol Sport provided t-shirts for all participants and volunteers taking part in the event:
“I’d like to thank all of our sponsors, including Bristol Sport who have been incredibly supportive, helping us out with our fantastic t-shirts for the event.”
The day was also notable for another Bristol Sport success, with the organisation’s staff team winning the corporate relay comfortably.
Ben Breeze who led the team following his mammoth 120-mile Break The Cycle event last week, was delighted with the victory:
“It was amazing, in the hubbub of the race you just go as fast as you can, and we managed to do what was needed to win.
“Short courses are crazy, it’s short and quick with tight corners, there were some pretty hairy moments!
“To win it representing Bristol Sport has made it a great day.”
