“The side have played some amazing cricket this season. They got to the quarter final last year, and the players’ goal was to go one better, which they’ve done, getting to the semi-final and beating a very good Yorkshire side which is an outstanding achievement.

“We didn’t perform for the first 15 overs, there were a few nerves there as you’d expect. Benny Howell and Jack Taylor were backed up by some really good fielding to bring us back into the game.

“The way we finished the innings with Payney and Tom Smith, gave us a very good chance. When we walked off at half-time we knew we were in a decent position.”

Dawson, who was appointed at the turn of the year, is now looking ahead to the final at Lords, against a Surrey side who have already claimed two victories over Gloucestershire.

“We look at the opposition, but we’ll prepare exactly as we did for the quarter and semi-finals, we’ll have our run through next Friday and offer the lads some information.

“The good thing is we’ve played Surrey twice in T20 and fifty overs. They beat us in both but were both close matches, so we’ll have a few thoughts on how we can improve on those performances.”

The Gloucestershire Head Coach is hoping for a big West Country crowd at Lords to help his side to victory.

“It’ll be massive for us to get a big West Country following head up to Lords – I remember watching Gloucestershire on TV when they last got to the finals and they had some tremendous support, to get similar support would be fantastic”, Dawson told bristol-sport.co.uk.

Gloucestershire play Surrey in the final of the Royal London One-Day Cup at Lords on Saturday, September 19th.
