With the championship having already been decided, and the Bristol racer lying in 2nd overall going into the weekend, there was still some work to do to cement his position in the Championship.

A strong qualifying in the wet conditions allowed Zamparelli to hold strong in the two weekend races and finish in the runner up spot.

The GT Marques driver put in a strong performance and went 4th fastest, missing out by just a few tenths. His second fastest lap meant he would start race two on Sunday in 2nd place.

For the first race on Sunday, Zamparelli made a strong start from the rolling getaway, and made a great move around the outside of the Champion Dan Cammish for 3rd place.

A battle ensued between the two championship protagonists over the next few laps, but for the Champion to spin out on lap seven and allowing Zamparelli to race to a podium spot at the line.

“We struggled so much in that race. Unfortunately the car just did not feel great again, and I was so far off the pace,” said Zamparelli.

“All I was doing was focussing on not making any mistakes so that 4th place couldn’t catch and pass me.

“It was close at the line, as 4th place basically drew side by side with me, but I held on.”

Race 2 was a lot more straight forward, as the GT Marques team made some changes and this seemed to allow Zamparelli to hold his own more comfortably.

Starting in 2nd place, he tucked in behind Dan Cammish and followed him round. With 2nd place in the Championship still in Zamparelli’s pocket at this stage, it was all about making no mistakes and holding station.

Zamparelli crossed the line in 2nd and cemented 2nd overall in the Championship, with Charlie Eastwood finishing off in 3rd.

“It was a slight bit of relief to actually cement 2nd overall.

“I can certainly say that was not our aim at the half-way point in the season, when we were only 3 points off the top and miles ahead of 3rd.

“However, with all of our issues of late with the car, we were somewhat holding on and happy to finish 2nd.

“I also want to thank all of my racing partners, Bristol Sport, Clifton Coffee Roasters, Arbuthnot Latham, Solsoft, Eden Private Staff and all of my #BristolBonnet members.
